76th Fighter Squadron

From P-40s over China to A-10s over Iraq, the Vanguards carry a Flying Tigers story built around protecting friendly forces and taking the fight to the enemy.

About the Organization

The 76th entered combat in China in July 1942, flying P-40s as part of the 23rd Fighter Group’s Flying Tigers. Later generations guarded friendly skies, flew A-7s and took A-10s into Desert Storm from their home at England Air Force Base, Louisiana. After a chapter in space operations, the squadron returned to flying status in 2009 at Moody, bringing its heritage into an Air Force Reserve fighter unit.
